# Glossar

> Glossar is an iOS app and Home Screen widget that facilitates passive German vocabulary learning by displaying curated daily words, translations, and contextual examples.

Glossar is built around the idea that real language retention comes from consistent passive exposure, not forced study sessions. Instead of asking the learner to open an app and run a lesson, Glossar surfaces a single new German word — with its translation and a contextual example — directly on the iOS Home Screen and Lock Screen via widgets. Each glance at the phone becomes a brief, frictionless learning moment.

## Product

- **Platform**: iOS (iPhone). iPad support is on the roadmap (see Changelog).
- **Format**: Native app + Home Screen / Lock Screen widgets.
- **Core mechanic**: Curated daily vocabulary, surfaced passively where the user already looks.
- **Content**: German vocabulary at CEFR levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2.
- **Learning model**: Passive exposure / spaced repetition through ambient surfaces, not session-based drilling.
- **Companion role**: Designed to sit alongside grammar books and structured study, not replace them.
- **Audio**: On-device text-to-speech for word pronunciation. No audio is sent off-device.

## Privacy

- **Local-first**: No account required. No personal information, location data, or usage analytics are collected, stored, or transmitted.
- **On-device storage**: Progress, seen words, and settings live on the device and never leave it.
- **Apple services only**: iCloud and App Store interactions are governed by Apple's privacy policy.
- **TTS**: Text-to-speech is processed entirely on-device.
